Seiko Instruments
USA Inc. SLP Software Installation Error Message
Q. I am trying to install the Seiko Instruments USA
Inc. SLP software on my computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP
(Service Pack 1) and receive one of the following error messages:
- SLPCHECK portdlg.dll could not be loaded. (You can continue by
clicking Okay.)
- SLP could not open regkey. (You can continue by clicking Okay.)
Then, when I run the newly installed program, I receive the following
message:
- SLPWIN.EXE Entry point not found. Procedure point SavePrinterSetup
could not be located in dynamic link library slplib.dll.
What is happening and how do I achieve correct software installation?
A. This appears to be an issue related to Windows not being able to find
the slplib.dll from the Seiko Instruments USA Inc. software.
Proper installation can be achieved by doing the following:
- Copy the file slplib.dll from C:\Windows\Seiko or C:\WinNT\Seiko
to C:\Windows\System or C:\WinNT\System.
- If there is another slplib.dll file in the System directory,
overwrite it.
- Start the SLP Software Installation process again. At this point,
you should be able to run the installation successfully and load the
software without error.
Note: When trying to overwrite the slplib.dll if you
receive a system message that says the file is in use by Windows, shut
down the Smart Capture applet in the System Tray and try again.
Q. Are the Smart
Label Printer products compatible with Windows XP?
A. Yes. The following Smart Label Printers are compatible with Windows
XP:
- SLP 100
- SLP 200
- SLP 240
- SLP 120
- SLP 220
- SLP EZ30
Microsoft has changed the windowing design for Windows XP, so there are
a few places where the application display window for the Smart Label
Printer applications are not displayed correctly. However, this does NOT
affect any of the functionality within the applications. Because Windows
XP is based on Windows NT technology there is of course no compatibility
with the older Smart Label Printer, Smart Label Printer Plus, and Smart
Business Card Reader products.
Q. Does the Smart
Label Printer work under Windows 95, 98, 2000 or Windows NT 4.0?
A. Compatibility with
Windows 95, 98 and NT require version 4.00 Smart Label software or
later. Windows 2000, ME, and XP users should download version 4.56 or
later for full compatibility.
Q. Does the Smart
Label Printer work under Macintosh or DOS?
A. No.
Q. Does the Smart Label Printer work under Windows 3.1?
A. Yes. The software can be downloaded here.

About Labels
Q. What do the
labels cost?
A. Typically about 3-5 cents per label.
Q. How long will the labels last?
A. Without prolonged exposure to light or heat, SmartLabels will
last for years.
Q. Why do Seiko Instruments USA Inc. SmartLabels cost more than
average labels?
A. The SLPs do not require any ink, ribbon or toner, but do require
a special thermal label stock. Not having to purchase ink, ribbon or
toner eliminates hidden costs and reduces your overall cost.
Q. I've used your labels and they fade quickly. What's the problem?
A. When exposed to prolonged light or ultra-violet radiation, the
thermal label stock will cause the material to fade. With normal usage,
this is not a problem. Also, when used on vinyl, thermal stock, like our
labels, will fade due to gasses emitted by the vinyl.
Uses for the Smart Label
Printer
Q. Does it print
barcodes?
A. Yes, it prints barcodes. Print Code 39, UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN 13 and
1 2/5, Code 128 and Codabar bar codes with full control over height and
density. Also supports POSTNET, the US Postal barcode for faster mail
delivery and postal barcodes for the UK and the Netherlands
